Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 June 2026
Household HQ ("Household HQ", "we", "us", or "our") provides a household management app that helps the people you live with coordinate shopping lists, calendars, chores, meals, and more. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Household HQ, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information โ When you sign in we collect your email address (used to send a one-time sign-in code) and any display name you choose. We do not store passwords; sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email.
- Household content you create โ We store the content you and your household add to the app, including shopping and to-do list items, calendar events, chores and their completion history, meal plans and recipes, noticeboard notes, pet details, and any photos or images you upload.
- Household membership โ To run shared households we store which households you belong to, your role within them, and the invitations you send or accept.
- Push notification tokens โ If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can deliver alerts (for example, when an item is added to a list or an invite is accepted).
- Connected Google Calendar (optional) โ If you choose to connect a Google account, we access your Google Calendar data solely to display your events inside the app. We do not use Google data for advertising, and our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Diagnostic and technical data โ To keep the app reliable we collect crash reports and error logs, which may include basic device and app information such as device model, operating system version, and app version.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the app.
- Sync shared content in real time across the members of your household.
- Send the notifications you have enabled.
- Display your connected calendar inside the app.
- Diagnose, fix, and improve the app and our service.
- Protect against abuse and keep the service secure.
- Communicate with you about your account and important changes.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
How information is shared
Within your household โ Content you add to a household is visible to the other members of that household. Think of a household like a shared whiteboard: anything you post there can be seen by the people you share it with.
Service providers (subprocessors) โ We use trusted third parties to operate the app. They process data on our behalf under contractual obligations:
- Supabase โ hosts our database, authentication, and file storage.
- Sentry โ collects crash and error diagnostics.
- Expo โ delivers push notifications to your device.
- Google โ if you connect your Google account, to read your calendar for display in the app.
App stores โ Apple and Google distribute the app and process any purchases through their own systems, subject to their privacy policies.
Legal reasons โ We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account and households are active, or as needed to provide the service. When you delete content it is removed from our active systems; residual copies may persist in backups for a limited period before being overwritten. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data (see "Your rights and choices" below).
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and row-level security that isolates each householdโs data from others. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights and choices
You have control over your information:
- Access and correction โ You can view and edit much of your information directly in the app, including your display name and your household content.
- Deletion โ You can delete individual items and content at any time. To delete your entire account and associated personal data, contact us at privacy@gethouseholdhq.app.
- Export โ You can request a copy of your personal data by contacting us.
- Notifications โ Turn push notifications on or off at any time in your device settings.
- Connected accounts โ Disconnect Google Calendar at any time to revoke our access to your calendar.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict its use, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@gethouseholdhq.app and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Childrenโs privacy
Household HQ is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International data transfers
Our service providers may store and process data in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data internationally, we take steps to ensure it remains protected in a manner consistent with this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Household HQ after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
